In this special health and fitness section, you'll discover how a quad makes the weight room work for him, learn how we really should eat, and find out what to look for in a gym/health club and personal trainer.

Fitness centers range from upscale businesses to neighborhood gyms, with quite a few options in between.
In "Pumpin' Up—Quad Style" Brent Poppen describes techniques he uses for a full workout at a "regular" gym. He tells how it's beneficial to get out of your wheelchair, if possible, for some of your workout, and says that fellow gym patrons and athletic staff are more than willing to position weights on and off machines. "People in the gym understand and are happy to assist," he says. "I always make sure they know I appreciate their assistance."

In "Weight Control in a Super-sized World" Gillian Goodfriend says that weight management requires a life-long commitment to living a healthy life. She looks at some of the specifics of what you can do. Illustrations by Margie and Bob Lafay.

In "Finding a Needle in a Haystack" Amy E. Rauworth points out that although it may seem like an impossible task, locating a fitness center that works for you is feasible—with a little prior knowledge. She discusses several key factors you should consider before making a decision.
