Sixteen rugby teams from across the country rolled into Lakeshore Foundation in Birmingham, Ala., April 16-18, for the 2010 United States Quad Rugby Association National Tournament.
San Diego's Sharp Edge remained undefeated throughout the weekend and took home the Division I championship. In Division II, the Utah Scorpions were crowned champs.
"The athleticism and game play at this level is phenomenal," said USQRA Second Vice President Bob Murray. "This tournament is like the Super Bowl of quad rugby. It is a very long weekend full of smash and crash leading all the way up to the crowning of the DI and DII champions."
Pool play began Friday with Division I's Sharp Edge, University of Arizona, Denver, and Shepherd against Portland, Phoenix, Lakeshore, and Tampa. In Division II, San Antonio, Las Vegas, Seattle, and New York took on Utah, St. Louis, TNT, and East Coast for an exciting first day of wall-to-wall competition.
