End of an Era?

The 52nd National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament took place in Chicago in early April, and while everyone sings the praises of some of the new young talent, the veteran stars shone just as bright—maybe brighter.

Rugby Nationals:

"In the 11 years I've participated in [quad rugby] nationals, this year was by far the most intense and competitive," Tampa Generals coach Terry Vinyard said about the 2000 United States Quad Rugby Association (USQRA) Division I national championships.

Singing Sensation

No one sounded better at the twenty-fifth anniversary running of the Boston Marathon, held April 17. Jean Driscoll's rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" had the folks at the Boston Athletic Association clamoring for an encore. She knew the words, having sung it at many Illinois athletic events. And she knew the crowd, having won Boston seven times.

Sled Hockey:

Although Team USA placed sixth in the Sled Hockey World Championships, held March 19-26, only images of winners were left with the people of Salt Lake City. Thousand of fans, old and new, trekked to the "E" Center to cheer the United States team. Athletes of incredible determination and courage represented the U.S. They are the epitome of achievement.
